My love of real estate began in 2002 when my husband and I purchased our first home. Our realtor, Rich Steffens, told us that we wouldn’t stay in that house for more than five years. We sold it in two. With Rich’s steadfast advice we purchased a home that was better suited to our growing family needs. At that closing, he once again offered sage advice. This time he gave us seven years. Six years later we bought our current home. Throughout our real estate deals I immersed myself in the details of the process and enjoyed learning about how buying and selling works.
In the years since our first home purchase I’ve kept a close eye on the real estate market. I receive daily updates on new homes listed and check the paper on the weekend for homes sold. Even though I am no longer looking for a new home, I am still passionate about market trends. This has never waivered.
Being born and raised in New Paltz has led me to know the area quite well. I attended the public schools and then earned my bachelor’s and master’s degree in teaching Spanish from SUNY New Paltz. My academic career led me to study abroad in Spain and Mexico on multiple occasions. However, New Paltz has always been home.
Over the years I’ve lived in six different houses in New Paltz, rented two apartments in the village, and lived in three places in Gardiner. I have a unique understanding of the varying neighborhoods that make up this area that I love so much.
As a Spanish teacher I have had the privilege of teaching in Beacon, Highland, and currently New Paltz. I have three children who all attended New Paltz schools. One is a recent graduate. My husband, Mark, is also a teacher and currently teaches technology at the New Paltz Middle School. We are blessed to be able to reside and work in such a tight-knit, caring community.
When I finally made my dream of becoming an agent a reality, the first brokerage I called was Steffens Realty. I’ve known Rich for many years and have trusted him with every major financial decision I’ve made in my adult life. We wouldn’t make a move without him. Rich has the same strong family values and core ethics that I emulate. He is honest, open, and fair. In this business those are qualities that define a great broker.
